Baptiste Eybert (Montpellier, France)
Working with worn clothing, recycled fabrics, and hybrid materials, Baptiste Eybert composes forms that float between the familiar and the spectral: interrupted silhouettes, fragments of bodies, visions from a distorted interior space. In his practice, recycling is never neutral: it becomes an act of rewriting and drifting, allowing temporalities to be hybridized and unstable spaces made of vestiges and apparitions to be created. Through collages, sculptures, and assemblages, his works are situated at the crossroads of surrealism, material memory, and the intimate imagination: recycled materials become sensitive archives that allow him to explore the unconscious and weave hybrid narratives between cultures, bodies, and symbols. During his residency, Baptiste Eybert further explores a textile language charged with dreams, tensions, and buried memories, while seeking to give a third dimension to his works through volumes that intertwine sacred and scenic architecture and confront these two aesthetics.

This two-part residency allowed him to appreciate both the vibrant cultural scene in Quebec at the Fonderie Darling and the rich landscapes and human connections of the Gaspé Peninsula. Creative workshops with Grade 11 students at École des Deux-Rivières in Matapédia, which recently began offering an art option; a presentation at Carleton-sur-Mer CEGEP in Emie Gravel's sculpture class; and a meeting at the Cercle des fermières in Saint-André de Restigouche demonstrate the diversity of encounters involving the artist in residence and different communities.

BIOGRAPHY
Baptiste Eybert is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Montpellier, France, where he graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in 2020. Before devoting himself fully to the visual arts, he spent several years working in the fashion industry as a couturier, artistic director, and stylist, an experience that has had a lasting impact on his approach to textiles. The artist has participated in numerous group exhibitions in France and has worked as an assistant to several renowned artists, which has enriched his relationship with materials and sculptural construction. Winner of his first international residency at the Fonderie Darling and the Gare de Matapédia, this TransAtlantic Residency allows him to develop new textile and three-dimensional experiments, in parallel with the preparation of his first major solo exhibition, presented at the Kiasma in Castelnau-Le-Lez (France) in the summer of 2026.
