Laurie Hauff is developing her research around her Phalènes project, in which fire and the practice of rope bondage intermingle in site-specific, performative installations inspired by butterfly cocoons. In Matapédia, the artist explores snow and cold as a material for sensory performance associated with the notion of encoconnage. Like the feminist actions of French artist Françoise Janicot, who links them to a metaphor of confinement, this practice enables her to explore the polysemic dimension of ties and attachment, which are at once physical, sentimental and erotic.

A graduate of the Montpellier School of Fine Arts, Laurie Hauff has taken various training courses in costume design, leatherwork, shibari (Japanese bondage), fire manipulation and butterfly breeding. Laurie Hauff has also worked as an assistant costume designer for various artistic productions. Since 2022, she has been involved with the Collectif Sauvage and has held solo and group exhibitions in her region.
