PATRICIA GALLANT

A native of Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia and the second-youngest of 15 children, Patricia Gallant grew up on a farm, surrounded by a wealth of experiences and with a deep love for all things related to nature.

 

This passion led her to pursue training in horticulture, followed by a 37-year career at the Jardins de Métis, 23 of which she spent as head horticulturist.

 

Winter, a quieter time professionally, gave her free time to devote to photography. It was during those years that she developed a genuine fascination with snow and, in particular, with ice. Its textures, transparency, shapes, and veins—and the images it can reveal—became a source of inspiration.

With a strong tendency toward pareidolia—the ability to perceive familiar shapes in random elements—she discovers a world in the ice where images emerge.

​

Today, she wishes to take her artistic practice a step further and explore photography in a new way. She seeks to take the image beyond its traditional framework and experiment with different mediums and ways of presenting it, particularly by developing a more tactile and interactive approach to her ice photographs, in which the public is invited to handle, observe, and discover the works in a new way.
