CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
Gare de Matapedia – Artistic and community hub offers creative workshops for young people and vulnerable individuals with the goal of providing them with unique and enriching artistic experiences.
A visual arts center housed in a converted former train station and operated by a recognized charitable organization known for its role in educating the public and raising awareness about art and heritage, the Gare de Matapédia offers customized creative sessions to early childhood centers, schools, colleges, and community organizations.
Thanks to the various artists hosted in its studios and local partner artists, these creative sessions—as diverse as they may be—bring the public into direct contact with professional artists, immersing them in the artists’ creative processes, techniques, and mediums.
It is widely recognized that creative activities have a formative and positive impact on personal development and interaction with others. Among other benefits, creativity helps to:
-
Explore your imagination and discover new skills
-
Be part of a group and break out of isolation
-
Build self-confidence
-
Boost self-esteem and personal satisfaction
-
Develop concentration and memory
-
Reduce stress, anxiety, and depression
-
Release emotions
-
Cultivate patience and perseverance
-
Enrich one’s knowledge of the world
-
Take time for oneself and keep both hands and mind busy
-
Develop fine motor skills
The workshop, which lasts about an hour and a half, can be preceded by a tour of the exhibitions and the historic building from 1903, which remains intact to this day. We offer honoraria to artists; the suggested amount is $300 plus $50 for materials and, if applicable, a contribution toward travel expenses—for a total cost, including taxes, of no more than this amount.
